Art of Movement

Leela first worked with Gary Soto taking a 10 day plunge, 6 months pregnant into ‘self-portraits in movement’ and fell in love with his work, after studying over the years with his colleagues Anna Halprin and Helen Poyner. There are cross overs with the simplicity of Soul Motion scores – witnessing movers, embodying the art of echoed response, pause, and returning to the inner somatics to fuel playful dance.

Soto brings a rich background of improvised movement and performance. He has been studying, practising, teaching and performing in the Movement Arts for over 50 years. He has taught internationally since 1979 in 21 countries. Soto had a 45 year relationship – as artistic and educational colleague – with Anna Halprin, the San Francisco Dancers Workshop, and Tamalpa Institute. Additionally he taught Somatics and Experiential Anatomy for 25 years at New College of California in San Francisco. See more about Soto’s work here:
